Subsea7 Norway leading the way in sustainable commuting
The Challenge
As more employees began using e-bikes to commute, Subsea7 noticed a growing concern: where and how to charge e-bike batteries safely at work.
Without a proper solution in place, employees had started charging batteries under their desks or in uncontrolled areas, creating potential fire risks and violations of workplace safety protocols. The company needed a way to:
- Eliminate unsafe charging practices
- Continue promoting e-bike commuting without compromise
- Ensure electrical and fire safety compliance
The Solution
In 2023, Subsea7 partnered with Ampliuz to test a dedicated charging system for e-bike batteries at select office locations. The pilot program focused on:
➛ Providing employees with a safe, centralized place to charge their batteries
➛ Ensuring the charging setup met strict internal safety standards
➛ Reinforcing the company’s commitment to both sustainability, health and safety
“We want to support employees who choose greener ways to get to work - without compromising on safety,” said Hans Olavesen, Facility Manager at Subsea7 Norway.
A Safer Way Forward
With a successful pilot in place, Subsea7 has now expanded the charging infrastructure to include several charging systems. Future phases will explore integration with access control and digital monitoring.
By combining sustainability goals with uncompromising safety standards, Subsea7 and Ampliuz are setting an example for how modern workplaces can adapt to changing employee needs - responsibly.
